Examples of Web Services Exposed for Consumption
This page contains some random information based on information found
while researching the Web Services and .NET articles. Please let us know
if you'd like to apply some of these concepts to your software.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)
AWS opens the entire database. Big business move. Why?
- Screen scraping consumes resources.
- Lock developers and other apps into Amazon branding.
- Expand Amazon goodwill as a company that's easy to do business with.
- Allows Amazon to track popular requests and demand.
Examples of usage how vendors use AWS:
- Get competitive pricing
- Get product descriptions of well known products
- Get product ranking and customer reviews
- Find items that are requested but out of stock
- Buy or sell items in bulk
(MV people may be able to learn from the Amazon example of the value of
both providing and consuming web services.)
Alternate User Interfaces for AWS clients (Windows GUI isn't the only
UI)
- Create an AIM bot that people can send messages to, mention book and
get pricing, reviews, and other info that looks like a human response.
- Use WAP to return web service data in WAP format for cell phones.
- PDA wireless, enter book name and get Amazon data (could be used from
a consumer in a bookstore doing price comparison)
MV applications can take advantage of these interfaces just like Amazon.
