I neglected to mention that Microsoft Virtual Earth can be used in much the same way as Google. See this page for a recent article on the topic:
http://www.ftponline.com/special/web20/pvarholasp/

In particular, the techniques described there can be used to put a dynamic map or satellite image into our DesignBais webforms: How'd ya like to see where a place is right on the page after you enter the address? (Without launching a new page.) Is it in the middle of farmland or a metropolis? How many houses from the corner? How far to the nearest airport? Do we have any other customers in the area? (Plot them all with little flags.) I'd undertake this sort of endeavor as a professional service if anyone is interested.
